Here is why we should close schools now.

A Teacher at Rocky Run MS apparently might have a #coronavirus case. She left the building immediately after putting a mask on from receiving a call. It's now possible that fcps will make a straight decision by closing schools or maybe just that school. #closefcps #fcps

It is happening!

That said, teachers over 60 or with underlying condition should be able to stay home with pay. If you close schools now people are still going to be congregating at parks or on playdates anyway so it won't serve it's intended purpose.

Who will teach those classes with so many of the subs being retirees?

I haven't posted much other than memes lately, but as a primary care physician practicing in Tarzana, I wanted to give you my experience, and information that I know to be true. I won't mention hand washing or sanitizers, or things that everyone obviously knows, as there is plenty of information about this already.

I have two patients right now with CV, one hospitalized, and one not, and am close to a third patient. Essentially, 14 men went on a ski trip to Northern Italy. All have become ill, and all 14 have tested positive for CV. Of the 14, 4 needed to be hospitalized, and of the 4 patients, 3 are very ill as I write this. One had a significant pre-existing medical condition. The other 3 did not, and are relatively young. The news today out of Northern Italy is not good.

I have practiced for over 30 years, and have seen it all, or so I thought. Nothing has worried me like this. I recommend to all who read this that you avoid going to large group events such as sporting events, and concerts. I believe that all schools should be closed immediately and classes conducted online, which is relatively simple. I know that so far, children infected with CV have done relatively well, but they might come home and hug Grandpa, who won't do so well. Avoid contact with others as much as possible. CV in the United States is at a relatively early stage, but it won't last there for long. Make sure you have any medications you need, as well as supplies, but panicking hurts all of us.

My biggest hope is that I am totally wrong, and that you will all wonder in a few weeks what the hell I was talking about. But I have a pretty good track record, and I think you should take steps now to protect yourselves and your family. There is little cost to taking extra precaution right now, and the earlier, the better.

Feel free to share.

Wow that dude is quite the Zionist from just the few posts he has public in his fb page. I wish he seemed a little more professional. I would share it if it seemed like it was coming from a better source.

I’m not a Zionist. i’m not even Jewish. I respect his medical opinion as someone actually treating COVID 19 patients. We need to close the schools.

You do know that it essentially like locking the doors after the burglar is already inside your house right?

Sorry, I wasn’t talking about the poster, I was talking about the doctor. I too respect where he is coming from but I’m trying to share only info from really solid sources right now. If you are the doctor you might want to check the things you’re sharing publicly. They make you look like a Zionist.

If schools close, I still plan on going to some small playgrounds and allowing play dates. But we are talking about a few children being together for a short amount of time. Some parents might keep going to really crowded areas like museums or airplanes but I will follow guidelines to avoid those places.

But as long as school is in session, I’m going to keep sending my Kids to school.

Wtf is wrong with being a Zionist? You seriously dug into a doctor’s Facebook page and are discounting him because of completely unrelated information?

You have issues

Probably for the teachers who would not otherwise be around children. But overall, how is having kids out and about in the community going to slow down the virus spread, at least enough to justify the significant downsides of closing schools?

You are absolutely right.

Shutting down schools to control spread needs to be combined with a shut down of basically any place where the children would otherwise go to congregate. And no traveling for fun either.

Probably traveling an hour or so to drop the kids off at your sister's for the duration would be acceptable though.

This. If they don’t also do this there is ZERO point to closing school,

That’s bs. There is no other scenario like school, where virtually every kid in the country is packed elbow to elbow with other kids on a daily basis. There’s no stopping this, there is only slowing it down to reduce strain on emergency services. Which closing schools and cancelling large events, in combination with good hygiene, would achieve.
Virus transmission outdoors is about 80% lower than indoors.

If an irresponsible parent puts their parents in charge of their kids, that's on them.

"The findings confirm that COVID-19 is spread simply through breathing, even without coughing, he said. They also challenge the idea that contact with contaminated surfaces is a primary means of spread, Osterholm said."
