My son's kindergarten class has several 7 yr olds in it.

Right, the schools have an unofficial cut-off around April. They should just publish the cut-off dates. I have never met so many kids who can score 80+ on the WPPSI which takes 45 minutes, take no breaks or small breaks, be able to participate in pre-k (circle time, know their abcs and numbers, use the bathroom by themselves, put on their clothes) and follow simple instructions, who are not ready for k. I wonder how many are not ready for k by the md state readiness assessment.

All these references to football success are just laughable because if your goal is really, truly to have a successful football player, you won't be sending your DS to most of the area private schools.

But the parents said that their kids were not ready not that the school would not admit them. This is the problem the schools have an unofficial cut-off of April for boys.

Gee, I haven't been paying attention. What's the problem?

are children dumber if there parents are older and have made it in the world so they no longer have the hunger or the brains because they don't need to use them and they think there qualifications are still current and are insulted to be asked to update there qualifications or they are just slower making there later children dumber and same for younger parents who are basicly children them selves. if this were true you would need to scare them in to using there brains again from or ancestors or there younger hungryer parents. but we can't do that. I hope this isn't the case or we're going to have to do some serious birth control : :

In Finland which consistently outperforms us (as well as the rest of Europe) in these global comparisons, compulsory education doesn't start until age 7.

Said the classic nincompoop who keeps coming back to read this thread. If the kitchen is too hot, simply get out.

Intellectually challenged and frustrated she drops this refrain all over the DCUM board and wakes up the next day with more drivel.
