Ring setting

Does anyone know what is costs to change a ring setting for an engagement ring? It's a solitaire stone, white gold and I want a simple, lower setting (no additional stones, intricate work).

Also, have people's ring size gone up post baby?

My co-worker said some places can charge $1500 or so for a 3 stone setting in platinum.
If you live in DC/Bethesda I would look at a place around the corner from the Gap/Banana Republic off of Wisc. Ave up in Friendship Heights. I think its on Westbard Ave? Alex Korshoshian or something like that. They resized a ring for me, hand engraved my daughter's baptism shell water cup and they were very nice and educating. Its a family run business and Tiffany recommends them quite a bit.

This isn't your exact situations, but I lost my engagement ring and we had a new one made. When we went to pick up the ring, the center stone was way to high (like in your face). I refused the ring, and the fixed the setting (lowered the center stone) almost immediately for no charge. I think the cost to you will depend on if they can work with the original ring or if it requires a new one. White gold should be much less expensive than platinum.

I've had two kids and my ring size is the same as it was 9 years ago. During one of my pregnancies, I had to stop wearing my rings for the last month or two.

I had my engagement ring reset at Boone and Son in Chevy Chase for about 2K. But that included the addition of two side stones so you can probably get it for less.

I went to Kings Jewelers - King St in Alexandria - not for reset but they design my wedding bad -very reason able and nice to work with.

In response to your other question: it took me 3 months to be able to wear my rings again after having my daughter. And they fit a bit more snuggly than before. I have heard that it's not uncommon for your joints to spread during pregnancy, and for some people it's permanent.

if you get another setting with no other stones, and get white gold instead of platinum, it can be very inexpensive (less than $200). Of course, you could spend thousands and get a really nice setting too. I've found you have to look at them in person and set a budget for it. sorry I don't have a good store to recommend.

Similar thing happened to me where I lost my engagement ring (it was horrible!) but it was insured. My mom gave me a family engagment ring that was very small but in yellow gold and I looked into having it reset, but I never did it. Strangely, I've just stopped wearing the ring altogether, because it's not really my engagement ring. It feels a little weird sometimes, especially in the office when I see all these other married women with tons of gorgeous platinum bling on their hands. I'm just blaming it on being pregnant right now, but I like being able to put lotion on whenever, not worrying about losing it again, etc.

Maybe if we ever win the lottery, I will ask husband to go with me to get a new ring, but it seems so silly now after years of marriage.
