Are you going with or without kids? What kind of vibe are you looking for? Without kids, I would consider Hotel des Chevalliers right near the Place des Vosges -- great if you're a Marais person but so centrally located. Great neighborhood shops and restaurants outside your door.

With kids, I highly recommend renting an apartment. That is what we do when we take our little ones--last time we rented an amazing apartment in the 6th with a view of the Eiffel tower from every room. You have to do your own laundry (but they usually come with a washer dryer) and there's no room service, concierge or valet, but the benefits outweighed the minimal hassles (really, there were none), and our family of 4 were housed for less than $2000 for 7 nights.

we stayed at Rue Cortot on our honeymoon. They are geared toward Americans. So nice and helpful too.
