We are thinking of taking our kids to Florida for the last weekend in January because Montgomery County schools have a half day on Thursday and no school that Friday. Our thought was to go to Universal Studios and Harry Potter World, in large part because we wanted to go to the park when it wasn't too crowded. As it turns out there's a Harry Potter Celebration that weekend. From what I'm able to gather from the website, it looks like this is an annual festival so I would appreciate any thoughts on whether this weekend is going to be really crowded and thus we should rethink our plans. Thanks in advance!
Very. Very. Very. Crowded. Minor Potter celebrities go & fans line up for hours. Don't do it.
PP again. Harry Potter is in 2 of universal parks. Hogsmeade is in Islands of Adventure & Diagon Alley is in Universal Studios. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is connected by a train and you need a 2 park ticket to Ride it since it connects the parks. Make sure you have a plan before you go & and do not go during the celebration of Harry Potter.
Very helpful. Thanks.
Damn, we are scheduled to go then because the crowd calendar said it was low attendance. Is it completely dreadful? Everything is bought so we can't back out now.
I think we went during it. Was ok during first hour park was open (we had early entry from our onsite hotel). Crowded after that.
We went that weekend 2 years ago - Park was not crowded. If you go to the Harry Potter sections first, it should be fine.
If you stay at a Universal property, you get into the park an hour early. And some of the properties also include the fast pass. I looked into this same trip, but would only go if staying at a Universal hotel.
Can you buy the tickets with the unlimited express passes built in? Visited a few weeks ago and this was great to have, even if very pricey.
If your main focus is Harry Potter, and you'll be surrounded by thousands of Harry Potter obsessed people, you'll be encountering longer than average lines for food, merchandise, etc. They sell Harry Potter packages at the hotels so it'll be maxed no doubt. Why go knowing it'll be harder?
Ha! Yes, I remember making this mistake. We went went FCPS had a 4-day weekend and got caught in the crowds. We ended up buying 3 of the "fast pass" type tickets that allow you to line jump up toward the front. I think it was about $80 for each one, but I felt that it was well worth it on that day! Go EARLY, hit Harry Potter area first, and work your way back down.
We are staying onsite at a hotel that offers fast pass tickets so we are good on that front. Thank you. |
DP here. We are FCPS and also wanted to go that weekend. Was going to split time between Disney and Universal.
The lines are awful for that attraction. Don't do it. Your kids will be miserable.

New poster here...not being snarky, but have you considered going to London instead, and attending the WB studio tour outside the city? It was much more fun than we expected., and they have have special events there from time to time.
The Pottermore website often has event info, and if you join the mailing list you can receive advanced notice offers. |
