| Anyone at, or have kids, at Villanova? |
| When I was in HS, it used to be called "Vanillanova" because it was only white kids who went there. |
| It is harder to get into than I would have thought. |
| Rich, white, catholic |
That is the profile of my nephew that attends. |
| Beautiful campus, close to train line, very good professors, very polite, well-raised students. I think anybody would feel accepted there, even if they are not rich, white, and catholic. It is not a snobby place. |
| Great school spirit (Several things contribute to the vibe -- for example, the basketball team is top-ranked but live in dorms instead of being cordoned off in separate luxury accommodations). Emphasis on service. (Wonderful Special Olympics held every fall, transportion provided to Philly for tutoring programs, etc.). Several building projects and campus improvements underway. Selectivity increasing each year. |
| Solid safety for kids that didn't get into ND, BC or GT. We know a very high stat kid who inexplicably didn't get into any of his top choice and ended up at Villanova and is doing great. |
I know an AA young woman who went there. Very tough time at first from entitled dorm mates and being treated as somewhat alien. In the end though, she got some support from possibly the dorm staff and others at the school. Wound up feeling like she got a good experience and a good education. It was not an easy road though. |
| I really want one of my kids to go there. Hopefully 3rd time’s a charm. |
How does it compared to ND and BC? |
GT... you mean Georgetown? GU. |
| DS (now a junior) will be applying to ND, BC, and GU. Villanova will be his safety school. 34 ACT (mock) and 4.2 weighted GPA. Hoping to get the ACT to 35. I think he has a good shot at all of these schools, but ND is first choice. |
I don't know about "rich". Do you consider kids from Bethesda or Chevy chase rich? I'm in my 40s and went to Catholic high school in DC, and all of the people I know who went there still love it. |
same here but DC has Holy Cross on the list. I's put that ahead of Villanova. |
