Yes, another vehicle thread. This time: Nissans

We are in the market for an SUV, considering either Pilot or Highlander but I drove a friend’s Pathfinder (she has the 2016) this weekend and REALLY liked it. I know Toyota and Honda are generally the gold standard for reliability but what about Nissan which is also a Japanese company? Just trying to figure out if we should add it to our list.

Mechanic once told me Nissan is in the same league. Or almost.

We have never had issues with the two Nissans we own or DH’s maxima before that. We tend to buy new and don’t drive them into the ground though.

About ten or so years ago, Nissans were actually considered a close 2nd to Hondas + Toyotas in the Japanese car market.

Hyundais were considered pieces of junk.

Well fast forward to 2017, and I have known people who hate their Nissan cars.
Two family members had to get their transmissions replaced.
(Thankfully both cars were still under warranty, but still....)

Another friend finally sold hers before it hit 100,000 miles due to the constant repairs on it.

So no way would I ever purchase a Nissan@ car.

I have known many people who own Hyundais & have had less issues w/them.

In fact, I would buy Hyundai over Nissan any old day.

*Hope this was helpful!

Same league with what?

Jaguar? Volvo? Volkswagen?

I'd say all four about equal. They are ALL hugely unreliable pieces of crap on wheels. Absolute garbage.

Knock on wood, I haven’t had any issues with mine. I had an Altima that was great until someone else hit me and totaled it (it was a bad accident, not a fluke thing). I have a Juke now, I am at 56K miles and no problems. Like someone else said though, I don’t plan to drive it into the ground. I’ll probably start looking to trade it in around 70K.

We have a nissan murano which for the most part we really love. However, once we had to have the battery jump started and ALL the electronic stuff was fucked and we had to spend hudreds of dollars at the dealership getting it fixed. Apparenlty that is typical.
