| I am looking for a rental and just saw that many became available at West Springfield Terrace. Does anyone have any insight? This apartment complex is zoned for Rolling Valley Elem;any insight? |
| We used to live in west Springfield, but were not zoned for that school. It's a lovely and diverse area, but I have to admit I was shocked when I heard there was an MS13 murder in the park where we used to go hiking and strolling often. We also had the police come to our neighborhood often for things ranging from domestic violence (which happens anywhere regardless of SES) to disorderly drunkenness to a kid going on a joy ride in a stolen. |
I am in West Springfield (Orange Hunt/Hunt Valley area) and I don't recall anything about that murder. When did it occur and in which park? We have been here about 9 years and I've never known the police to have to come into our neighborhood for much of anything. It's very quiet, from what I have experienced. |
| PP here. I looked up the news story and saw it was Lake Accotink Park. I vaguely recall it now. |

The MS13 murder was a spillover from Maryland. No one involved was from Springfield, FFX County or Virginia. Why they chose this park is beyond reason.
The West Springfield area (zip code 22152) is very safe. If you follow the ffx co police blotters, this area has some of the lowest crime in ffx county, with some weeks having no crime beyond a stolen iphone or car accidents. There was a groper along the running trails maybe five years back, and a sad double murder (gave the appearance of a family/honor killing or love triangle killing) a couple of years ago. Minimal property crime. Some petty theft (like things taken from unlocked cars) but it is really uneventful in that area. Rolling Valley is rated low for that area, but I believe that is due to it being an intellectual disabilities center. The people I have met with kids in that school seem happy. It is a great area for families. Safe, great schools, involved communities and lots of fun sports and activities. |
