Cliche, I know, but it completely reminds me of a situation with an old boyfriend... the "one who got away" 
Pictures of You by The Cure It's just so damned sad. Maybe Sparrow by Neko Case It's not really a "break up" song. It's about a little bird who is killed by a hawk and it's just so, so sad and haunting. Beautiful voice. |

Don't do country so can't help with that and all my breakup songs and albums are from my indie music tastes so not sure if you'd be into it.
However the one has some good popular appeal - "No One's Gonna Love You" by Band of Horses. Perfect blend of the pain and spite and anger but also love and longing that you feel after a breakup. The whole album Cease to Begin is great for heartbreak. |
