| Can someone please explain how the TJ kids get to and back from TJ. DC is taking TJ test this year and I am not sure how the transportation works. |
| where do you live? |
| Navy elementary area. Oakton HS feeder. Thanks! |
| Your kid will be assigned to a bus stop (not your regular neighborhood stop-you'll be responsible for getting DC there) and the bus will take your kid to TJ. In the afternoon, bus will leave from TJ at 4 and drop off at that same location. On a case by case basis, they might provide transportation from your neighborhood. |
|
Lots of families either drive their kids themselves or carpool with other families to cut down on the amount of time kids spend commuting to TJ. My kid only took the bus a handful of times in four years, we mostly just drove him there and back.

Driving there would not be possible for us. Hopefully the assigned bus stops are at walking distances. Is there a place where we can look up the bus stop locations? |
|
You would have to call the transportation office and tell them your address and they would tell you the closest stop.
I know they pick up at Mosby Woods elem.school. They may pick up at Navy -- or another school. You cannot count on it being walking distance at all. It's just luck of the draw on where the stops are. I expect they may change if they have a big group of kids closer to one elem. or high school than what they had in the past. |
Thank You! Not sure how working parents make it work if the bus stop is not close. Our neighborhood does not have many kids, so unlikely there is a bus stop nearby. |
No. The county does not post bus stop lists for security reasons |
Call TJ Transportation and ask for a list. I know they have a stop at Navy Elementary, South Lakes HS and Louis Archer. Transportation at TJ is messed up. Some kids are able to get dropped off near home while others aren't. it's a mystery how that works. The guy who runs it is very unresponsive so getting things like bus switches, etc is just a royal PIA. |
Gosh! Getting into TJ is one hurdle and I guess finding a way to get there is the next! |
| Many TJ students who take the bus to school take 2 buses. One from a nearby ES or MS that takes them to their base HS and then another bus from there to TJ. It actually sounds more unwieldy than it is. The system works for most students. |
| It's a crazy mess if you're not from one of the large feeder areas. TJ transportation is as much of a mess as all of FCPS transportation. |
| I was driving past Navy last wednesday at 7:35 am and it appeared that kids were getting dropped off by parents for a TJ bus stop at in the bus line area. There were a decent amount of kids there, so guessing the bus comes around 7:40-45 |
Limited sympathy, PP and OP. There is bus service to TJ, at least, even if it's not perfectly convenient for you. There is no bus transportation provided at all for students who transfer from their assigned base HS to another HS to do things like take AP, IB, specific language sequences, etc. that aren't offered at their base high schools. Parents have to drive them or they drive themselves or take other transportation. |
