| DD has a massive cystic pimple by her nose. It is red with a white tinge and she said “it hurts like hell.” She has had it for a few days and has been putting prescribed acne cream on it but it won’t go away. Any suggestions?? |
| Dermatologist! My mom use to send me as a teenager and they would give me a shot to make them go away. |
| Dr. Tanzi's office in Chevy Chase has an emergent appointment service that could get you in quickly for an injection that'll take care of this rapidly. She doesn't take insurance, but insurance may not pay for this anyway. In the meantime, continue with the acne treatment, take an anti-inflammatory, and use an ice pack. |
| DS has Cystic acne. We see Dr. Melissa Abrams. He currently is using a topical called Epiduo forte. It takes about six weeks to start working, but once it does it works like a dream. I wish my parents had known about this when I was a kid. I also had cystic acne and believe me when it’s all over your face it’s disgusting and it hurts. |
Does it work better than Accutane? That was a godsend for me and the only thing that got rid of my cystic acne. |

Are you talking about one cystic pimple or widespread cystic acne?

For a single cystic pimple, I'd apply warm compresses in the evening to "loosen" it up. Then something as simple as a dab of tooth paste over night will help dry it up.

| Stab it with a needle, dry it off, put a hydrocolic patch on it. It will suck it dry. The patches are sold in most drugstores, often say something about treating burns or reducing scars, it is a little squishy, usually three large patches in a box for $5-6. Cut it twice the size of the area you want to cover. |
I’m the poster you are quoting. No idea if it works better tha accutane. Neither DS nor I have ever used it. |
| I have adult cystic acne and use tea tree oil. It's the only thing I've found non-prescription that actually works. |
