Why Was The Beautiful 60s Song Deleted?

Anonymous
I was making a valid point about the beautiful harmony and well-dressed teenagers, comparing it to the shameful lyrics and crass outfits of today - and making what I believe was a valid observation of the decline in this country. (Plus, it's a beautiful song.)

That group was hardly representative of all 60s music, just like today’s music is far from heterogeneous. Take your needlessly racist threads elsewhere.

It wasn't racist at all. I was comparing well-dressed teenagers of the 1960s to people wearing vagina costumes, and beautiful harmony to lyrics withn f words. It was a valid point illustrating the decline of courtesy in our society - both in terms of acceptable language and dress. Can't you stop being a liberal for once and stop seeing race everywhere?

For those interested, the song was "Silence is Golden." Georgeous harmony and melody, for those unfamiliar.

In addition to being a racist, you are apparently a liar as well. You specifically referenced rappers as a symbol of the decline of society.

Because that's where the f-word gets into lyrics!

Nothing to do with race. It's about obscene words being accepted in today's music. We never would have allowed that in the 1960s. That was my point, But your hatred blinds you and makes you see racism. Similarly, in the 1960s, people would not have marched around in vagina costumes, which was also my point. What's racist about that?

I can point to a number of musical genres — most sung primarily by white people — that frequently have the F word. You don’t seem to know very much about 60s protests if you think they would have been offended by vagina costumes.

I would ask that you think about how you are interpreting this. I am criticizing rap music, due to the f-words, but because people who "rap" are primarily black, any criticism of it is racist? That is the same mind-twisting that liberals engaged in when they called anyone criticizing an action of Obama's as racist. In other words, I'm not allowed to comment on the (unfortunate) acceptability of f-words in rap songs because rappers are black.

You are wrong on this one, Jeff. But I've never known you to admit when you're wrong, so this time will be no different.

Maybe OP should re read the title of her beloved song, and put the message to use on this subject? Times change, people change, we can't stop it. Quit trying to fit today's teens into their grandparent's shoes. They aren't going to all of a sudden drop music that obviously speaks to them for music that you deem appropriate. Take a breath and realize our generation had it's shot, it's time to move on. My grandparents used to torture my mom with Bing Crosby, she in turn tortured them with Jimmy Hendrix, my kids are torturing her with whatever they are listening to.

By the way the F word has been in music since at least the late 80's. If you don't want your kids listening to this kind of music and wearing vaginas. (Vaginas are a reality by the way, why deny they exist) maybe raise them not to do that. Home school, Christian school, parental warnings. It is up to YOU to raise what you consider decent human beings. My DH listened to NWA and Public Enemy as a teen. Guess what he is a police officer now, lol.

OP wants to know why Jeff won’t tolerate her intolerance.

My guess any rational answer would go over her head.

The “f-word” instance that comes most readily to mind is in “Who Are You” by The Who, which came out in 1978.

OP here. Yup. The PPs defense of F-words in songs and vagina costumes in public - and criticism of me for finding it sad and objectionable - is proving my point about the decline in our society.

And as far as the PP who said I should be silent.... that proves it doubly. People who object to obscene language in public as being unacceptable are the ones who are criticized, rather than the crass people who use that language. Upside down values of liberals. Where people who speak well are told to shut up, and people who use the f-word in public are defended. Disgusting.

Lots of hateful liberals came out to play, I see.

yes....I'm intolerant of the f-word and vagina costumes in public. You consider me intolerant, and I consider myself to have common courtesy. It is AMAZING that liberals are criticizing me because I want a modicum of decency. You people are crazy.
