Twilight anesthesia for HSG

Anonymous
Do any of you on here know an RE around here that will give me twilight anesthesia (the same as some dental procedures) for the HSG test? I am very nervous about this test and I can barely have a Pap smear without freaking out. I am willing to travel and pay out of pocket.

Why don’t you ask your RE? The RE isn’t the one doing the procedure. It’s the technicians at the radiology lab that are doing the actual HSG.

What about a Xanax or another type of relaxing pill? It is such a short procedure (like 2 minutes?) and in experienced hands it feels like a pap smear. I had one done at Washington radiology and it hurt, and then one at Shady Grove and it was like night and day - practically painless.

Take a double dose of advil an hour before (ofr what they recommended at washington radiology) and just do it. Or as PP said, get a Xanax prescribed for that day.

Xanax will help. Advil before is also a good idea. Good luck

I asked for valium before mine and it was a piece of cake. It was quick and wasn't painful for me at all. Valium will make you feel better. You don't need anethesia.

I wasn’t offered anything but Tylenol. It was painful and I cried. I was still crying when I left. Do whatever you need to.

I had so much trouble with my HSG at SG that the RE who performed it suggested I be put under anesthesia if the test ever needed to be repeated. So, I suppose SG might offer that option.

i had this a few months ago and i was terrified. put it off for a long time. i scheduled with one of the drs at dominion, vs going to a lab of my choice. took some anxiety meds that day, and the recommended advil. i honestly felt nothing- except for discomfort when the catheter was inserted. i had blockage on one side- didn't feel a thing. i'm glad i scheduled on the one day a week that a dominion dr performs it. over in less than 5 min.

The RE might be the ticket. I did one at INOVA that my OB prescribed and SGF had me redo it (good news because there was a different result). The SGF one was much easier

No anesthesia or other mess but I didn't ask for it
