My skin is so dry in the winter what do you do?

It actually hurts. What do you do to keep your skin (body) moisturized?

Body Shop hemp body butter.

Exfoliate in the shower 2-3 times a week and mix a little castor oil with my body lotion. I buy a peppermint scented castor oil at Sallys - inexpensive, goes a loooooooong way and smells nice.

My normally dry skin is very smooth for the first time in years!

Moisturize from within.

Eat better. Examine what you typically eat, make changes and see whether there are differences. Such as whole milk inatead of skim, more oil in food rather than fat free. Drink enough clear water rather than Diet, flavored alcohol or sugar drinks.

Lower room heating temperature. Wear natural fiber, not polyester, nylon, etc. artificial materials.

Do not use soap, especially shower gels -they are very harsh on skin.

Just bought a cool mist humidifier and already I feel better. Sleeping for so many hours in dry winter air was doing a number on my skin.

Gold Bond Extra Strength medicated body lotion.

Quick lukewarm showers and aveeno baby eczema lotion immediately. When it gets really dire, Eucerin has a horrific oil wash in a gold bottle that smells faintly of fish, but it helps.

+1. Healthy eating does help. Olive oil, avocado, nuts - healthy fats are good. Drink water and eats lots of fruits and vegetables. And yes, avoiding or really limiting alcohol.

I use soap sparingly. I also love coconut oil in stead of lotion.

Tried so many lotions and oils that didn't do the job. Then found this -- it's amazing and not expensive! Can't be concerned about the issues some have with using petroleum jelly because getting rid of bleeding knuckles trumps that for me.

I started using lush exfoliates with corn flour. I'm not sure of the name. Look it up.

I use pure squalene oil on my face at night and add it to my body moisturizer after showering. Also try dry brushing on your body before you showere.

What do you use instead of soap or shower gels?

How much water do you drink, OP?

My skin has been permanently wrecked by taking Accutane 20 years ago. Always insanely dry in the winter, and I get cracked, deep fissures in my heels, peeling lips, and cracked skin on the hands if I'm not careful.

I drink tons of water, so there's no room for improvement there.

The humidifier helps. As does a warm (not hot) and short shower, immediately followed with a good moisturizer. Aquaphor ointment works the best but I hate the feel. Lubriderm lotion works very well, so I usually use that. Both were recommended by my dermatologist.

Natural and organic stuff does not work for me. I've tried them all.

I have to wear closed shoes (no clogs in the winter and no flip flop/sandals in the summer), with socks, to help keep my heels under control.

Kiehl's lip ointment.

Cerave cream (when Costco has it).

Brazilian Bum Bum cream.

I use beeswax on my cuticles and feet. I also make my own scrub with olive oil and sugar or salt.

Don't use antibacterial hand gels as they are drying. Wear gloves when cleaning or washing dishes.
