Please read Weds Washington Post Story in the Metro Section.
A convicted murderer from an organization called Peacoholics was placed in a DC high school to mentor students. He is currently on trial for sexually assaulting a female student. Here is a link to the story http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/01/AR2009090103572.html This shady organization has received over $7.6 million from the city -- OUR taxpayer Money!! This is stomach turning! If you are equally outraged, I ask that you please contact your councilmember and the Mayor and demand that Peaceoholics does not receive another DIME of taxpayer money. |
Yikes, what a story! But it's hard to know who to believe here. It does seem entirely possible that the girl is making the whole thing up. |
OP here - Jury just found him guilty on all accounts. |
opps..meant all counts. |
Same organization used to provide political cover for the transfer of the firetruck to Sosua. |
Yup. The district is AWESOME. |
It is, actually. My little street had the most amazing block party yesterday. It was such fun getting to know so many neighbors of so many backgrounds, sharing food, watching the children race up and down the street on their bicycles, tricycles, scooters, and skateboards... Today I'm off to the farmer's market around the corner. On Tuesday my husband will take the metro to work and I will take my kids their immersion school. I love living in DC. |
I love living in DC. I hate DC government -- it's corrupt and incompetent. |
Yeah, hard to argue with that. |
Certainly we know that there is a slant on alll stories, especially the Post's versions.
We certainly didnt think Beauvoir should shut down when they had a child molester on their staff. Peaceoholics offers mentoring services in some of the District's most challenged and troubled schools. When was the last time that you offered to volunteer at Anacostia, Ballou or Eastern or Spingarn? These schools are plagued with poverty and violence and children dealing with a host of social and emotional challenges. This story is very unfortunate. But this organization is taking a media beating that is not discussing the good work that they are doing. It is certainly not helping that the organization has been considered a "friend" of the Mayor - at a time when much of this city is very angry with the Mayor. Don't rush to judgement unless you are part of the solution. Schools and communities with lots of parental and community involvement do not require contracts that pay for these types of services.....but some do. |
Let me get this straight, they say they did a background check on this guy, but it did not pull up the murder conviction from the District? How is that? However, the guy still had an armed robbery conviction back in the 70's as well as pleading guilty to cocaine possession last year and they STILL HIRED HIM to work in the schools? I don't know whether or no he is guilty of this charge, but the person who hired him definitely needs to be fired. Makes you wonder who else is working in the D.C. Schools. Heaven forbid we provide our children with good role models. |
To the PP....It is funny how this story becomes about "DC
schools".and a great big concern over who is working in the schools....when there is always story after story about child predators in the schools in VA and in MD |
