Expectant and Postpartum Moms
I'm 5 weeks pregnant and yesterday I was told by the nurse that my HCG levels are not quite doubling and that we need to test again to make sure this pregnancy will continue to be viable. I have done 3 tests, at 17 dpo and the results were 79, then another one at 21 dpo (300) and the last one yestreday at 24 dpo and it was 642. I'm not a genious but I see an increase here and I have read on the internet that this is not exact science. I have another exam next monday but the wait is killing me ! I have practically no symptoms, besides sore breast, bloatiness and gas. With my first pregnancy I had nausea, food adversions, the whole nine yards. Any advice will be apreciated. Please send me some real stories to help me survive this weekend...
Those numbers look okay to me (doubling every 3 days). It's not an exact science and I've read that doubling every 2-4 days is fine. By 6.5 weeks you should be able to have a sonogram. Much better predictor of outcomes than HCG.
Your HCG is rising at just about the same rate and levels as my mine did at the beginning. The fact that it is rising so much (79 to 642 in a week) sounds like you're getting yourself a baby. Try to distract yourself this weekend, but I think you're getting good news!

I was also told that the rates should double every 24-48 hours. My HCG was much higher than yours OP at weeks 6 (24,000) and increased quite a bit, but not at that healthy rate, I did end up having a miscarriage.
I did read on this board in other posts though that people have had successful pregnancies with HCG not doubling the way it should. Maybe they can get you in earlier to do a sono? |
Please have your doctor keep testing/doing sonograms until they are sure. That happened to me and I ended up with a ruptured ectopic.
