| My 19 year old odyssey finally but the dust so it’s time to get a new car. I was thinking of just getting a new odyssey but I’m wondering if maybe a pilot would be better? I have two young kids and they are getting to the point where in a year or two I will probably start having to schlep around their friends. Plus we have out of town visitors a lot. How easy is it to get into the third row of the Pilot if there are car seats in the front two seats? Is either car easier to drive and/or park? Any insight would be very much appreciated! |
I happily traded my Odyssey for the new Chrysler Pacifica. 18 months in, and it is great. Give it a try. |

I went from a mini-van to a Pilot and i thought it was too small. I switched back to an Odyssey. Even without the space issue, the sliding side doors are enough of a reason to keep driving a mini-van when you have kids! Also, the
Odyssey is lower to get in and out of. |
| Both are junk. - a mechanic |
OK, then what's your suggestion? |
PP here and I agree, but the mini-van options are slim. |
| OP here, why are they junk? I’ve had much fancier cars that haven’t come close to the kind of reliability that my ancient Odyssey gave me. Reliability is my number one concern which is why I want to stick with Honda. That and I had my odyssey towed to the dealership to be evaluated. They will accept it as a trade-in but if I wanted to get a Chrysler I’d have to pay for it to be towed again and I’m also not convinced that the Chrysler would give me anything close to the longevity of the Odyssey. |
Really? Care to elaborate? What is better? |
Don't get the Chrysler. It will be falling apart in 5 years, and there's already a recall that the seatbelt comes undone. That would be aweosme with a child buckled in! |
PPs are pulling your chain. Ignore them. |
| I think either the Odyssey or the pilot are both great choices. Either one will run for a long time. I would test drive them both and see which one you like better. We looked st both the Sienna and the highlander and went with the Sienna because it has more room for people and has the sliding doors. At the time my husband said he would only consider Honda or Toyota. I think they are both great brands. |
|
I responded that they are junk, sorry for not giving a suggestion.
The Dodge Durango is a fantastic choice for SUV. Proven relialibillity in the current 3rd gen platform wii no surprises. The base models handle great, excellent power, all wheel drive, and acceptable MPG. Minivan options are truly slim on quality in all brands foreign and domestic. |
| We are on our second Odyssey. The first one finally died at age 12. OP, I can’t believe you got 19 years… That is awesome. We test drove a new Odyssey and a Pilot. Frankly, we wanted second row captains chairs in the Pilot, but in order to get that you had to go with the top-of-the-line car. That was just too much money for us to spend. Both my husband and my kids said that the second row bench was extremely uncomfortable. If you have the bench it’s harder to get to the third row then if you have the captains chairs also. I felt the drive was heavier than the Odyssey, but I did like that. We ended up with a new Odyssey with more features than our old one had ( let’s face it, I’m older now and need a few more conveniences ). This was a great purchase for us. We love the car. We are Honda people though ( also have 14-year-old Accord). |
Huh? I don't know anyone that has issues with their Odyssey. They run them to the ground and they keep running |

Pilot is several inches taller, a bit wider and 6!inches shorter which makes cargo smaller when in 3rd row config
But having it 6 inches shorter makes it mildly easier to park. That plus AWd made it our choice. But really they are very similar from anemometer |
