Would you pick up DD for her period?

Anonymous
DD got her period for the first time since summer. (first year of periods are very spaced out in my family…not sure if its common over all but my mom and sisters and myself all had just a few periods a year as early teens). Anyway, she forgot her gym back today and thats where her supplies are. The nurse gave her a pad but "its huge and you can hear it when I walk!" and she just wants to come home. I offered to run up her supplies but she is embarrassed because "everyone" knows her mom would be dropping off period supplies and she just wants to come home and rest. She needs to stay the day right? I just felt bad for her and her voice sounded nervous and she's not a nervous or anxious kid.

She’s in elementary school? Let her come home

I would pick her up. It's elementary school, grades don't count, the pace is slow, she can make up anything she's missed. Poor thing. I'm so glad I got my period late.

Yes, of course I would. Imagine yourself in her position. Let her get used to having a period regularly before throwing her to the wolves. Geez.

Shes 12…I guess I should have put this in tween!! Ahhh just not use to thinking of her that way! OK thanks for the responses!

Go pick her up. I had really miserable and irregular periods when I was young and it was soooo hard. I am eternally grateful for the times my parents let me come home or stay home when I really needed to. This is something she will learn how to handle and get better at dealing with, but right now she is physically and emotionally miserable at school. Go get her.

Nope, I wouldn't go pick her up. She may as well learn now that life goes on when you have your period. I'd bring her supplies.

This is what little makeup bags are for, IMO. Period supplies.

Ugh I can totally relate to "everyone can hear it!" I know exactly the swosshy sound she means.

Honestly, I wouldn't but I understand the sentiment to do so.

If you don't think she'll get behind (I find it sometimes takes a week for my 7th grader to make up work after missing a class so I really hesitate to do so), I would make it clear to her that this is a special circumstance. She'll have her period for the rest of her life. The faster it becomes taken-for-granted that she will continue with everything as normal, the better.

When you posted there were what, 2.5 hours left of school? The nurse gave her a pad sufficient enough to hold her over. I wouldn't go get her. She'll be fine.

I picked my dd up when she started her first period during the school day.

And every once in a while because she often throws up when she's on her period.

Don't pick her up.
Do donate a Costco size thing of tampons to the school nurse.

I responded earlier to the OP that I wouldn't pick her up. But in the bolded, I would. But that's completely different than what the OP described.
