Our DS, who is six and has ADHD, could use some support with his social skills. How would we address this?
Social skills group? Some kind of therapy? How would we find out where these things are held? We live in Chevy Chase DC so would look for something in NW DC Or close in MoCo. |
| The most effective social skills group is at school, where he can learn and practice with the kids he sees every day. See if the counselor runs a group or lunch bunch. Outside school, Sue Abrams in Rockville runs social thinking groups for that age. |

One on one play dates
Incorporate into iep Extracurricular social skills group So all of the above |
Don't recommend sue Abraham's class. I'd try a SN camp like lab, newton, or auburn |
| Alvord Baker has groups in Silver Spring and Rockville. |
|
If you contact an OT office, they have a lot of glasses and flyers for classes. We go to SkillBuilders.
In Falls Church, there is a woman I love. http://www.parentingplaygroups.com/ |
| Alvord and baker now has an office in Chevy Chase Md |
NP here. I heard good things about Abraham’s group. What do you not like hers? |
| Floortime in Bethesda! They have groups for different age groups, as well as one-on-one. |
| Some schools offer social skills groups. It's worth asking at your child's school. It makes it easier. Also, if you want insurance to cover it, you may be limited in where you can go. |
