JV and varsity baseball roster sizes

My son is interested in playing baseball next year in HS. I'm trying to get a feel for how much of a long shot this is going to be. We are in MCPS. How many roster spots are there are on JV and varsity teams? Are most of the players travel level? If your son plays baseball in MCPS, can you share your experience.

Yes, the players are travel-level. That's going to be true for any high school sport in this area that has cuts.

How many are/were on your son's roster?

Not sure about baseball, but softball tends to be around 16-18. They tend to take more players in HS than on travel squads b/c HS kids have other obligations.

There were 22 boys on our HS varsity baseball team last spring. There were 25 on the JV team.

Our HS JV and Varsity teams both had ~20 each, all former or current travel players. Playing time is based on performance and seniority. Baseball participation seems to vary quite a bit from school to school and from year to year. 5 years ago at our HS, they had trouble fielding a JV squad. Last two years they had cuts.

Our high school had 13 Varsity and 18 JV. Some JV got moved up at end of year but no real playing time. Varsity coach is not taking boys for the season until he can play them. A few kids on JV were not travel level.
