Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I am 31 weeks, and EXHAUSTED! I get up and walk around every so often for my swelling legs, keep a fan blowing on me and the radio going at my desk but that's not helping my fatigue. What keeps you awake at your desk and gets you through the day? |

Sadly, I don't think there is a magic answer for this. I try to drink a lot of water - keeps me up and going to the bathroom and also (this might sound odd) keeps me moving while I'm at my desk - constantly reaching for my water bottle. I usually eat lunch at my desk and do some blog reading and then take a walk outside and read, etc around 3 or 3:30. That afternoon break really helps bring 5:30 here faster.
FWIW, I hit a wall around 31 weeks and I'm 36 weeks now and have a bit more energy than I did a few weeks ago. Might just be the excitement of 'yay I'm almost there!' but I definitely feel a bit more like myself and a bit less zombie like... |
| wow...i was just about to post this. 31 weeks here and finding work impossible (I work in a pretty fast paced office). plus i have a grad school project i am finishing up. i can't think at all. i have a fan blowing on me...keep lots of snacks...drink lots of water. i just feel dazed and drained. |
| Also, has anyone else completely lost their ability to focus at work? Not only am I exhausted, I cannot, for the life of me, stay focused on a task at all. I would occassionally get a day of this now and then pre-pregnancy, but now as the clock is ticking down to the baby's arrival, I have found that I have zero focus for work...all that I can think about is the baby and all that I have/want to do. (which is why you find me reading this post rather than working on the task sitting on my desk!) |

This is totally me. I can't concentrate. I'm checked out already (I'm 34 weeks). I feel like I'm in the movie, Office Space. I just walk around doing nothing. |
| I think colleagues expect that we do less and less useful stuff... people have been quite understanding here (I'm 39 weeks) and haven't been expecting me to come in for the last couple weeks, let alone get work done. I've got times when I stare into space and times when I'm pretty focused on getting these last bits done (maybe a form of nesting?!) so it evens out a little. I'm not working 8 hours a day anymore either - come in a little late, leave a little early most days! |

I posted the response about lack of focus and just had to comment on 9/2/2009 19:00 poster. I laughed out loud at this post because I just told a colleague yesterday that I seriously feel like I'm in the movie Office Space. I've been reciting the quotes about spacing out and getting 15 minutes of real, actual work done.
So happy to hear from others that it's not just me! |
| I worked through my 1st preg and luckily Starbucks was next door. I'd get a 1/2 caf latte around 10:30'ish which got me through the a.m. and sometimes I'd go back for another in the afternoon. I spent a fortune there. |
| I agree- my spending at starbucks has tripled since reaching the 3rd tri - don't worry, I am drinking well below the recommended limits, but sometimes even just a small amount of caffeine (like one shot's worth) can make a huge difference in getting through the afternoon. |
