We are thinking of switching from my federal plan (which doesn't cover any IVF) to my husband's Kaiser plan through work. It seems, based on what I'm reading, that my husband's Kaiser plan covers IVF. If I'm reading this correctly, it states:
We have 4 frozen embryos with Shady Grove. Given this information, anyone have any sense of approximately how much would it cost for us to do a FET through Shady Grove next year through (1) Kaiser's plan and (2) out-of-pocket? Basically, I'm trying to determine Kaiser's negotiated rate for an FET through Shady Grove (and I can then determine the cost at 50%). I also need to know the out-of-pocket cost of doing a FET at Shady Grove. TIA! |
I know there was a recent thread on this board on how much it costs at SG. I don't remember but maybe somewhere in the $20K range? You could also call SG and speak to one of their financial folks. It looks like insurance wouldn't cover ICSI, PGS testing, and meds so for budgeting you'll want to keep that in mind. Good luck! |
I don't have the Kaiser federal plan, but what you posted is the same as mine as well. I paid $2,500 for my FET. It did not cover PGS testing which I opted to do with my frozen embryos. |
Single out of pocket FET at SG is $4600. Shares risk FET is $11,500. |
You will pay $2500 for either FET or Fresh cycle plus 50% for the cost of meds. PGS, freezing, storage not covered. |
Not true for fresh. Doesn't matter since OP is asking about FET. Meds for FET for me: PIO and delestrogen. Both were super cheap. |
What do you mean not true for fresh? I paid $2500 for fresh Kaiser with SG. Meds were covered 50%. |
One fresh cycle at SGF is $7,500. It's def. not $2,500 total for that. My nurse actually said that the $7,500 is for self paying patients. If you have insurance (full or partial) it's even more. |
When we transferred our embryos with SG through Aetna, there was a negotiated rate for Aetna patients that was lower. Still paid out of pocket but lower. FYI. |
Kaiser has a negotiated rate of $5000 or so with Shady Grove of which a Kaiser patient ( non federal plan) is responsible for 50%. OP is specifically asking about Kaiser. |
I know. I had Kaiser and did a fresh cycle, with the 50% rate and it was definitely not $2,500. More bills came later after the transfer. |
Current FET single is $4600 for self paying patients @SG. when insurances are footing the bill there is a negotiated rate between health plan & clinics which is typically higher than the self paying rate. ( I work in the healthcare insurance/care management) industry so I am familiar with these practices. |
FET with Kaiser at 50% is $2,500++. That’s your initial deposit and the ++ comes from doctors visits, ultrasounds, etc. all at 50/% as well. PGS testing is not covered. I just did this a few months ago. Meds for me was delestrogen and PIO, both which I filled at Kaiser pharmacy and super cheap, |
Do you mean you paid for monitoring ultrasounds separately at a 50% rate in addition to the $2500 deposit? |
