... their preferences (or lack of interest in what hormones produce in most teens that age), if a 16 year old girl only started menstruating two years ago, might she be behind he peers as far as feeling attraction?
I got my period at around 11 and remember the hormone surge and being attracted to boys at around 13ish, would a late starter for menstruation be slow on attraction as well? |
| I started at 11 and am still a "friend type". Not ace, just less horny and find the partner "culture" boring. I'm obviously a minority though. |
|
I had crushes long b/f my period.

No. I had a crush on the boy we carpooled to nursery school with when I was three years old. Scotty. Then I had a crush in first grade on Matt. Then in second grade on Craig. Then in third and fourth grade on a friend named Scott (scotts are good people). And on and on.
Aunt Flo visited for the first time at the end of 7th grade, when I was 12.5. I didn't date until the summer before 10th grade. |
| I was late at 15.5 but crushes on boys from age 9 |
| Op here. She had crushes on boys even back to elementary school and in middle school. I wonder if high school and serious relationships just make her nervous? |
| I'm the "friend type" a few posts above and she may not be ready or tired of the subject. But we can't really guess based on so little. |
Same. From age 5 on. |
| Op again, I’m talking about sexual attraction, beyond crushing. |
My D is asexual and had crushes in early elementary school and started her period at age 12.5 in 7th grade. |
| I didn't get my period till halfway through 7th grade, and was crushing on boys starting at least in the beginning of 5th grade. There was one in particular--Brian. Sigh. |
| I got my period in high school and didn't date until college. I certainly had crushes on guys but didn't act on them at that point, nor did I share details of those crushes with anyone because I was a private kid. Happily married now, though! |
If this whole “ace” trend was around back then, I wonder if you’d have fallen into this trap like teenagers are now. |

I had crushes so intense that my whole body tingled and I turned beet red when the boy walked into a room. It started before but close to when I started menstruating at 11. I started masturbating at 10. And before anyone asks, I was not a victim of abuse, and I had none of the typical markers of early menstruation - I was thin, athletic, Caucasian, and the product of an intact and happy home.
I was educated on puberty and menstruation but not prepared for the extreme sexual feelings. |
| My 16 year old started her period at 13. She doesn't actively seek the attention of boys, but she occasionally makes references about "when I'm married" or "when I have kids." I assume she's straight, and just not desperate like some other teens I see. |
