Stressed - how to entertain two small kids this weekend

Anonymous
Kids are not mine and are from out of town. 5 and 3 YO. I had planned on the Potomac pirate ship or water taxi to National Harbor but neither work timewise with the little one’s nap at 1 pm. What do I do with them?

Think smaller, fun local playgrounds, movie night at home with popcorn.

Play Doh, coloring books, juice in sippy cups, fruit snacks, and kids shows.

It ain't rocket surgery

Definitely.

This is a great blog for ideas: http://kidfriendlydc.com

But the park is plenty entertaining at this age.

Go to the zoo. Playgrounds that are a hit: Clemyjontri Park or the Cabin John playground (is the train still running?)

helium balloons in the house as a special treat!

If you want to do something DC specific, national building museum or air and space.

What area are you in? Don't stress. We can give you tons of ideas.

This. What’s the context here? If you are doing someone a favor, I doubt they are picky.

Agreed with PPs

Focus on doing things that are not stressful for you, because even the simplest plan like going to the playground will generate some chaos as you chase after 2 kids. Arts and crafts and Play doh are great when you’re home. My kids also loved baking at that age. You could look up how to make slime - that’s pretty popular with kids.

The only big one is to avoid is anything with long transportation times as you don’t know how the kids will be in the car/metro. Even a nature center near your place could be fun.

If they're not your kids, I wouldn't try to make a big production out of it. I'd keep it low key. Playgrounds are good, so are crayons and big sheets of paper. Go to the library together and get some books and videos, or check them out ahead of time.

Thanks!!!! Arlington. Playground is a fine filler but I have an entire day.

Lyon Village playground. Clemyjontri playground in McLean if you're feeling adventurous. Claude Moore Colonial farm around the corner from Clemyjontri if you want to walk them around some nature. Quincy Park right near the main library, and you can also go into the kids section of the library.

Park. Pizza lunch. Movie or museum.

Are you hosting their parents as well as the kids?
