| I seem to remember it being in January? Is that right? |
| It was early January last year. |
| are you in IOWA? |
It's sometime in January. DS invited his friend over last winter break and he said he couldn't come because he had to spend the whole break studying for that test. Hopefully, he was exaggerating but I felt so bad. Poor child.

No, Dingbat. The Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test is a test used across the U.S. to determine a student's readiness for taking Algebra. |
| In our school system they took it in 5th grade. |
Well, since you are not in Virginia or fcps it is not relevant when your school syatem in CA or wherever takes the test. |
Oh you’re the dingbat lady! This is in Virginia. I guess your school system is a little behind. |
Is this true? What scores determine that? Just wondering. |

In FCPS, kids have to have 91% on the IAAT and pass adv. on 7th grade math SOL (taken in 6th grade adv. math) in order to qualify. Some say that kids really shouldn't take algebra in 7th unless they score 95% on IAAT -- but that isn't the rule.
And even if your kid meets those benchmarks, they don't HAVE To take Algebra in 7th. They can wait until 8th. |
| FYI === it's only for screening to take Algebra in 7th grade. Anyone can take Algebra in 8th or 9th. IAAT is not used for that. |
It's VA schools forum. You must be lost. |
| DD was invited to take it in the summer before 6th grade based off her math SOL scores in elementary score. Because of how she scored on it, she was placed in pre-algebra in 6th grade, 2 years ahead of schedule. |
Pre algebra in sixth is the standard advanced math curriculum in fcps. Algebra is 7th for those who qualify. |
This. Pre-Algebra is simply AAP math for the year (which is essentially 7th grade math.) NBD |
