Lodging for a Large Family Trip to Universal Studios Florida?

Anonymous
My mother-in-law wants to take her whole family to Universal Studios Florida for her birthday. There will be 7 adults and 5 kids, ages 6-16. For anyone who has done a similar trip, is there a resort you recommend? Or would it be better to rent a large AirBnB in the area? My MIL is not wealthy and I already don't feel comfortable about her paying for this, so we're trying to find options that are reasonably priced. There are are some big rental houses available, some of which have heated pools, that would allow the cousins to sleep together and the parents to have their own rooms, and would provide common space for us all to hang out together in the evenings, so I like this idea. However others think a resort package would be a better deal.

Advice?

AirBNB or VRBO. There aren't any good options on property other than a block of hotel rooms.

For sure AirBNB or VRBO. Orlando is big enough that you really don't need all the fancy bells and whistles of a resort over there. Chances are parking will be stressful, excessive resort fees and limited space are also outrageous in that area. I get why you might want a resort but I don't think Orlando can really provide the experience you'll be expecting. All the resorts are overpriced hotels with excessive fees.

6 bedroom house with private pool in Windsor Hills Resort. On VRBO. We stayed for a week in the summer for $2200 all in.
