skincare in 30s

Anonymous
I recently turned 30 and I have had a very low key skincare routine--Neutrogena cleanser, oil of olay moisturizer with spf. Is there anything else you would recommend doing? I've used oil of olay my entire life but I'm wondering if I need to upgrade to another brand. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Not necessarily a new brand. Can you tell us more about hour skintype and lifestyle? Outside alot? Does skin look luminous or dull? Breakouts?

One thing we all need is a regular BROAD-SPECTRUM sunblock to use 365 days/year. The one in your moisturizer is not enough. A sunblock that has UVA in it prevents ageing (and yes, rays do come through windows, especially cars) and UVB works on the burning rays.

Olay has a cool personalized skincare prescriber on its website.

OP here--I have fairly normal skin. Sometimes my skin looks dull but that is probably from poor sleep because of my 10 month daughter. Do you normally put sunblock on top of your moisturizer?

OP - Do you have a dermatologist? If you do, a great way to get a medical grade (not prescription) glycolic acid product that will sweep away the dull, grey skin cells to help your skin look more luminous. If not, go to skinstore.com and look at MD Forte, Revale, and Avene products. These give permanent results, unlike the stuff you buy in stores. Much less expensive, too.

As for sunblock, yes, it always goes on last. Don't forget the neck (front and back) and the decollete. Also the hands and arms if they are exposed while driving. Sunblock today, no age spots down the road.

What level of SPF do most people wear for daily use?

You should wear a sunblock, not a sunscreen. Blocks start at SPF 15 but can go up to 70. I prefer something that is at least SPF 40 or higher. The most important thing to remember is that the block should say "broad spectrum" meaning that it protects against UVA (ageing) and UVS (burning.) I also suggest a block that is made specifically for the face. Something else for the body.
