I tried to find one for myself but even the FXA Casual leagues are for young players that have played for many years. Try DC Fray, not sure where you are located, but I thought they had a league for noobs.

I knew a woman in a co-ed league and it sounded rough. She was a good player, not small, and some guy broke her ribs trying to win the ball off her in a regular game run down the field.

zog sports, district sports, some of the youth clubs have leagues for adults, usually the parents so they are less competitive than the rec level for twenty-somethings.

Some sportplexes have over 30 leagues. Check out SNF, Fairfax, Springfield.

I checked out some of those over 30 leagues and sounds doable but most of them you have to sign up as a team. no individuals. If anyone knows of one pls share.

For women in Fairfax area, the Fairfax Women's Soccer Association is super low key and even holds training sessions for newbies. http://www.fwsasoccer.org/index.php

As we get older, as I'm finding out, the people willing to play an organized sport with me has greatly diminished. I think some teams would welcome a new player if only for the fact that one of their regulars may be choosing to sit out seasons due to family, work, or just plain oldness.

JCC used to have a really low key league.

I'm looking for a low key (and preferably female) team in Alexandria. I contacted two organizations to sign up for the fall season but never heard back re: the start of the season.

WAWSL is great, but you might have to travel a bit.
If you don't mind coed, CCSL is always looking for more women.

MoCo is a pain in the neck...I've never found any place to sign up as an individual...it all seems to be team based.

Instead of a league have you tried searching meetup? I went to a few drops in my area. Not sure about MoCo though.

Sometimes "over __" leagues can be more dangerous because people have something to prove. I have observed some really unsafe and dumb play in these leagues.

Very true.
I played in a +40 league where half the guys were trying to relive their glory days, and half were soccer dads playing because their kids thought it would be fun to watch.
Really bad combination.
