From what i can tell it went from $39K in 2015-2016 to $44K this year (or an increase of $3K a year).
Will it be $47K for the fall of 2018 and $50K for the fall of 2019? We're looking at middle school and at this rate we'll be at $62K+ by the time my son is a senior. PLEASE, hold the snark. I'm asking for honest and or realistic thoughts. Is this honestly what I can project to happen? We can maybe afford $44K now but this will be $60K in 5 short years. |
Yes - this is the trend and its been the trend to increase about 1% or just under 1% per year. |
How many people can afford these tuitions? I just don't get how high the inflation rate is on private school tuition. |
So we can expect st albans to be $50K in 22 months time for fall of 2019? |
That's really sickening. We have three kids in private. Thinking about going public for my youngest. Those of us who make too much for FA but just barely enough to afford private school are getting squeezed out. Pretty soon private school will only be for the richest of the rich and lower to middle class. No room for upper middle class, or working class families. So staggering. |
most likely |
but St Albans has been increasing roughly 10% a year. Not 1%. Am i missing something? |
Yup, its ridiculous. My son is graduating soon and I am so glad. Yes, his education has been incredible and the school is wonderful but, the price tag sucks. My other child goes to another private and the increases arent nearly as steep. |
There are other great schools that haven't had the same degree of tuition increases. Maybe it's to fund their field upgrades. Couldn't they get some of their douchebag families/alum to fund it all?
I encourage folks to look at other options. This is disgusting. |
Prices will rise until the equilibrium point is reached at which time supply and demand are balanced.
There's a price attached to all the things you and/or the school want including superior facilities, the best teachers and coaches, the best college counselors, financial aid and diversity, etc., etc. Want to reduce the sticker price? Ask to see the budget or ask one of the board members to share it with you. Scale back on demands and complain about things school wants to spend money on that you feel are unnecessary. |
Welcome to the club! Some of us who are UMC think this has already happened. |
Wow. That is insane. Are the facilities superb? How do they justify having a tuition that much higher than other big 3 schools and similar? |
10% increase is a lot if that's what it is - although seems more like 7% based on my calculations. Most private schools are trying to keep increases in the 3-6% range. Some schools also have jumps at different grade levels so you may have a double bump in some years. But yes, you have to expect that private school tuition will increase each year. |
Strange that they would do this when single sex education isn't as popular, there are plenty of top notch schools, and going to STA is no longer a guarantee of a top college. |
Privates school has almost always been for the richest of the rich. |
