Do you pronounce Megan as MAY gen or MEG en?
Also, do the pronunciations come from different parts of the U.S.? I pronounce one way, a friend the other way. |
| May gen |
|
I grew up with a Megan pronounced Meegan.
When I see the name I pronounce the E like in "elephant." My friend says her daughter's name Mayhen. |
| * autocorrect is having a hell of a time with this. |
| My husband says MAY-gun and I sat MEG-un. |
|
Megan: Mee-gin
Meghan: Meg-in Meagan: May-gin |
|
Maegan (MAY-gen)
Meagan (ME-gun) Megan, Meghan (MEH-gun) |
| I pronounce it however the person tells me to do so. |
| I'd say it however the person pronounces it but I've never heard anyone pronounce it may-gen (or mee-gen) only heard meh-gen. I'm from the south but have lived all over the u.s., in Pacific Northwest, upper Midwest, and mid-Atlantic. Still never met a mee-gen or may-gen. |
I start with MEG-an. If that's wrong, and the person says, "No, it's [whatever]", then I pronounce it "[whatever]". |
| May gun |
| I'm a Megan. I say meh-gen. So do my parents. My husband and his family and some of my extended family and a decent amount of other people say "may-gen'. It's relatively subtle so it's never bothered me but I do notice it. |
| Meg AN |
| Op here. Thanks PPs. |
| Wow. If only ever say Meg-en like PP above and am shocked to learn this is even a thing. I believe there is an actress whose name is spelled Meegan and who pronounces it that way but it would never occur to me to say that or May-gun to someone whether it was spelled Megan, Meghan, Meagan etc. |
