When Will MCPS Finalize the 2018-2019 School Calendar?

Anonymous
Any ideas?

DH’s sister is getting married overseas next November. Was hoping to have some ideas about the school schedule. Since there are usually some half-days in November (or at least this year, there are 3).

Anyone in the know? Or when do they normally finalize the calendar by? December?

Is that not on the schedule yet? That seems late. It’s only 8 months away.

School board is incompetent, that's the issue:

They're unable to fit the required education days within the date constraints that every other county in MD seems to be able to manage.

Nope..just 2017 dates.

It seems like it. Hopefully they come up with a calendar soon. I think it’s reasonable that people want to plan.

There are more categories of stakeholders here than in other counties. Do you think St. Mary’s or Baltimore City are worried about fitting in the Jewish High Holidays? Do you think the far western counties or the Eastern Shore have thousands of DCUM-type parents all clamoring to protect Spring and Winter Breaks, plus get in enough instruction before AP exams?

They are able to. They have provided multiple options for public comment. Which option did you support?

How about instead of whining to a bunch of know-nothings, call mcps and ssk. That's what I did.

The reason for getting out graduation date late is they're not all being held at DAR. The new vendor, I assume the College Park venue (they wouldn't name names), takes longer to get things done. They are hoping High School graduation dates will be released by the end of November (once the contracts are signrd).

Next year school calendar is being discussed by a board of education committee on October 24th, and will br discussed and likely be voted on by the full board of education on November 14th.

Do your research people!

Great, thank you!

And for the record it was easier and faster to ask on here than it would be for me to find the phone number and call.

Well, yes, because this way other people are doing the work for you...

If someone else has already done the research and is willing to share the results, what’s the value of OP duplicating the effort?

Agreed. Why should mcps answer the phone e 100 times if a post can resolve the question and share the info widely

+1!

Isn't that the beauty of crowd-sourcing?
