1. I read a post about teachers threatening students and cursing at them. Does this really happen?
2. Do teachers discourage cursing in the hunger grades or does it go unchecked? 3. If we are a family with moderately liberal views will we find people to connect with? 4. Is everyone totally 100% conservative? We know there are a lot of conservative families. 5. How and when do they boys get exposure to and interactions with girls? 6. When do they start using laptops? 7. There's a lot on the role of the father on the website. What's done to honor the mothers? Landon has mother son teas, a mothers club, and an active mother presence at events. |
| I'm interested in the answers too |
| There is an open house at The Heights tomorrow. That would be a perfect time to have these questions answered, instead of getting feedback of the sort one finds on this site. |
| Is it true that there isn't a school nurse?! That's outrageous. |
| The school nurse bit bothers me. It seems like a no brainer |
| No info re heights?? |
| Do a search. There are lots of threads on this. |
My son's school has a first-aid certified athletic trainer/medic -- but no nurse! Is that also outrageous? |
| I am interested in those answers too.. we are considering the school for 9th grade next year |
| There's a recent thread on The Heights focusing in part on the lack of a nurse. Look back a few pages for it. |
| My son's small school doesn't have a nurse either. but I am curious about teachers cursing and laptops.. my DS shadowed and one teacher had a rough and (in my son's opinion) mean comment towards one of the students. His feeling of the school was that it is very rough. I am curious how rough it really is? And also, are they completely against technology? DS loves computer games (who doesn't) and I wonder if he will even fit in. |
+1 If one is really interested, go to the open house. |
| We did go to the open house. No one mentioned cursing teachers and none of the questions posted above were answered, to be honest.. |
The questions are good/valid ones. Hopefully you'll get them answered. I'm sure the application deadline is fast approaching. |
1. No teachers don't curse at kids. If you misbehave you get a "boot camp" after school. 2. Kids are discouraged from cursing. It depends on the curse word and how it was used to determine the punishment. 3. It depends how open you are to other views. I am very liberal and it did not bother me. But most are conservative. 4. There are lots of conservative people and most teachers are conservative. 5. No exposure to girls organized by the school. Kids go to dances in middle school. 6. Not until HS but there is very little technology. My information might be old. 7. Moms are at every event. There are no moms teas that I remember but for me that was a relief that men were expected to be involved as much as the moms. Moms are not the 1st called when there is an issue but that was also nice that dads are involved. Teachers never had s problem talking to me if I initiated a call and never had a problem if my H was busy and asked them to call me. |
