FCPS 5th grade-normal to get little feedback about performance?

Anonymous
No tests or written work come home. Very little info on Blackboard. I assume if my kid were struggling I would be notified somehow?

Nope. 5th grade was a black hole. This was at a FCPS in Reston. 5th grade teachers are notoriously bad there and it's a given that you just accept there will be no communication.

My daughter is in 5th. They use Google Classroom for most everything (I honestly thing that will be the norm soon, and Blackboard will go. It is so much harder to upload, etc.). The teacher also sends weekly email updates. She also set up a Private Class Facebook page to let parents know what they are doing/show pictures which is really nice (she got permission from all first). My experience has been the same in my 6th grader's class, minus the Facebook page. Both bring home work in their Friday folders. My 6th grader's teachers do a student-led conference to have the student set goals for themselves for the year. I have been pretty impressed. We are in Reston.

This depends on the teacher and the school. If your principal promotes communication, then the teachers will likely be better at communicating. How and how often they communicate depends on the teacher. You could ask the teacher what's going on.
