I am having trouble finding a style or clothes I like. I am a size 6, a sorta big chest 32DDD, and a little bit of a tummy. I SAH but I need dressy modest clothes as well. I normally love stores like ann taylor, jcrew, anthropologie (but I am not brave at times or can't afford). I also like target, but their clothes usually look weird on me, but I want them to work. I am bored with my wardrobe. I recently went down a size so I need clothes, but am on a tight budget.
Aside from that I need some tops to go with "suit skirts" from jcrew. Can you help? I feel like time is slipping away from me, and I don't want to be frumpy while I am young (or ever). Thanks |
| Can't help you with what styles / brands to wear, but once you figure that out and know what you want... shop upscale consignment stores or Ebay for the brands you're looking for. Things are 50-80% cheaper there than retail - - if you're on a budget, that will help! |
| You should hire an independent wardrobe consultant. It's an investment and will save you time and money down the road. She can help you find your style and also help you understand what will fit your body best in terms of line and proportion. The good ones will help you wear 100% of what is in your closet and avoid buying things you will never wear. |

In general - J Crew does not work on someone with a big bust. She you can admire - but find another brand.
If you are on a tight budget - have you thought of having your old clothes taken in? |
| I've tried to do a personal shopper before, but in the DC area they are usually geared for older women. I guess I'm cheesy but I walk around the mall and when I see an outfit I like on display, I buy the whole thing (barring that it works with my shape.) Of course, you don't always have to buy every piece if you already have a similar pair of pants/skirt etc. |
| You should go to aici.org and call some of the consultants. Not geared for older women unless you get one who specifically works with women over 40. Ask about their experience, qualifications and professional certification. A great one will educate you about what works for you and teach you how to do this for yourself. She'll also show you how to build a wardrobe and not just buy pieces. |

Do you ever watch "What Not to Wear?" I am sort of addicted now. If you have a DVR, set it to tape some reruns - if you look in the info about the episodes, you can get a clue as to what body type the subject has, and maybe get ideas for how to dress your shape. The 2 hosts have a great knack for putting together outfits and telling you why this shirt or that dress will or won't address your body issues.
You could also try searching ebay or Craigslist for clothes by Shoshanna - she's a busty designer who does clothes geared toward women with bigger chests. Her things are really cute but pricey, so "used" might be a good way to go. (sorry I can't be more help - I'm kind of the opposite of you - also size 6 but no tummy and almost no chest, 34A. i have fashion issues of my own!)

Wait, you consider 32DDD to be "sorta" big?!
(as I slink away with my "barely A" cup . . . .) |

OP here: To the PP's I used to be bigger (thank goodness I am not anymore) I wish I was smaller....I could be wearing those cute tops with no problem!
i wish those what not to wear people would come to me! |
