Trump to widow of Sgt. La David Johnson: 'He knew what he signed up for'

I wanted to believe that he was given a script or counseled on what to say. He has no social skills, no empathy, no clue what is appropriate.

Coming from any other president, I'd say this is unbelievable. Coming from Trump, it is not at all surprising. I wonder if he made the same remarks to Kelly re: his son's death?

Idk. I'm not a Trump fan. It's definitely tactless, but isn't it kind of true?

I think we should all get way more outraged about endless war than we do about which platitudes are ok to use with respect to those dying in the endless wars.

Jesus Christ. I guess we're better off when Trump doesn't call the families.

Just what every pregnant widow needs to hear.

There's no reason why we can't do both. There's no reason for a President to be obnoxious to a woman who's about to go to collect her husband's remains.

Myeshia Johnson was on her way to the airport to greet the remains of her husband, Sgt. La David Johnson, when she received the call from the commander-in-chief.

“He said to the wife, ‘Well, I guess he knew what he was getting into,’” recalled Rep. Frederica Wilson, who was in the car with Myeshia. “How insensitive can you be?”

Trump was already under fire for not reaching out more quickly to the families of the fallen soldiers, who were killed in an attack in Niger on October 4th.

It's more than just a platitude, and no, it's not true that he knew that he would sign up to die in Niger.

There are a lot of things that are true that you wouldn't say to a widow burying her husband.

That's makes it so much worse that he said that to a pregnant woman. News reports say she was livid and "cried for hours" after Trump's call. Why can't the leader of our country make a consolation call without screwing it up?

Lol. So it's just the location of his death that is the issue?

Trump demonstrates once again that he has zero ability to put himself in anyone else's shoes, even for a second.

ok, so maybe he should be the one who stops calling the families.

For real, just when I think he could not possibly be worse...

come on, higher power - PLEASE take care of this for us!
