| We transitioned our daughter out of the swaddle using a zipadee which has been great. But now that she's 6 mos I'd like to put her in just a sleep sac--it would give her more freedom to move and would also be easier for daycare, etc. So I've tried just putting her down in a sleep sac for naps but she cries and takes forever to fall asleep and then sleeps 20 min and is awake crying again. With the zipadee she naps very well. I tried when she was 5 mos and it didn't work so I put her back in the zipadee and now I'm trying again at 6 mos and it's not any better. I think she likes chewing on the fabric covering her hands. Anyone have issues with the transition out of the zipadee? Any tips that work well? |
| Reason #237 to never swaddle a baby. |
See if you can find the sleepers with attached mittens in her size. |
Ha! My little girl is 9 months and still in the zipadee zip. I agree with the weird hand thing. I don't think it has anything to do with the swaddling contrary to what the snarky previous poster said, don't you just love how helpful some posters are
We swaddled our son from 6 days old and he transitioned out of the swaddle completely by 5 months with no problem all. I think every baby is different, just do a trial run every week or so and before you know it your baby will be fine without it. Don't sweat the small stuff. A sleep sack and a zipadee are close enough. |
Thanks! Good to know some older babies are still in zipadees! It’s like without it she can’t soothe herself, even though she sucks on her hands just fine when awake. How long are you planning on using the zipadee? I’m wondering if eventually she starts sleeping on her stomach maybe she won’t “need” it then??? |

My 19mo still in a ZipadeeZip. He loves it. Sleeps well, so I sleep well! He doesn't nap well at day care. But they've tried using the ZipadeeZip and he still has crap naps. So I think it's the atmosphere not the lack of hand coverage.
And he moves around his crib just fine. At some point we'll start using a Flying Squirrel. Look at the ZipadeeZip site. |
| My son is 10 months and still in his Zippy and my niece is 20 months and still wears hers! When we put him in it, he instantly puts his fabric covered hands to his mouth and starts rubbing his eyes, so he seems comforted by it. He still is able to crawl all around his crib and move freely. No plan to move away yet, why borrow trouble? |
