APS career center seats

I'm tired of the bickering on the middle school boundary thread. Instead, let's discuss how to get APS to put more seats at the career center.

Huh? They are putting 1300 additional seats there.

No. Those 1300 seats are split btw the Ed center and the career center.

But they are also planning to Arlington Tech growing to 800 seats. That's in addition to the 700-800 that is the CC's share of the recent 1300 decision. So, 1600 seats plus the kids there full-time for HILT, PEP, teen parents (unless those get moved?). Plus the students from the high schools that come and go throughout the day for electives. I haven't heard anything about cutting off access to those programs for the kids at the other high schools.

Seems like the ed center can grow bigger first.

Good news. APS is considering if career center should be a high school. With the seats that were already there plus the seats that are planned, it is a total of 2,150 seats. Now the question on the table is what facilities and amenities are needed there to serve that many kids.

We really need those seats because there will be nearly 3,000 more high schoolers in 4 years than there are today.

There was a joint meeting on career center recently between APS Facilities Advisory Commission and the JFAC.

Spoiler alert: it's South Arlington, so you'll get all the seats and none of the amenities.

No thanks. I like my currently zoned high school. This would give the SB an opportunity to screw people, just like they're doing in middle school boundaries.

Yep hard pass.

Although I’ll enjoy reading all the scathing opeds in the Post. That will be super entertaining.

let’s think of fun titles!

“ Separate and not even close to equal in South Arlington.”
“ For Arlington’s lower case, Less is certainly not more.”

Yeah, unless his school has EVERYTHING the others do, and pulls at least 50% of the boundary from North Arlington, I'm not on board.

It might be great for a couple of choice programs.
