Shady Grove donor Egg

Anonymous
Hello. I'm 43 and I'm ready to do DE but I'm having trouble deciding where to go for treatment. I'm at Shady Grove right now, but their shared risk DE plan is very expensive. I have a friend who did a 3:1 egg sharing with them because of the reduced cost, but she did not get pregnant. She gets to cycle again but there are additional costs and my biggest fear is that I think I only have the emotional ability to do one cycle. It's great that they offer a 6 cycles, but who wants to do multiple cycles? I'm willing and able to travel outside DC area. Any suggestions from those who have done DE, I have already done many failed cycles of IUI and IVF so I'm looking for my best option for one successful DE cycle.

That is the biggest criticism I have heard of shared risk programs - that few people can emotionally handle going through all the cycles. I do not have any experience with donor egg but I wish you the very best whatever you decide to do.

Hi, I did donor egg at SGF under shared risk ivf program meaning the 6cycles at 25000 but each cycle we would have to pay more money for donor etc. I did not qualify for shared risk for donor fee etc. Anyhow we did get pregnant on our first cycle but lost our beautiful baby girl almost a year ago at 31weeks. So now we are on our 3rd FET and I had one M/C and Tuesday is my Beta for 3rd FET but I am not hopeful at all. I agree I am not sure how long I can do this but I know it is so worth it. The love I have for my daughter could move mountains and I miss her so so much. But of course this does not answer your question, while I love SGF I would love to cycle at CCRM in Colorado. I have heard good things about them and they have a rate of like 80% for donor egg and they don't seem to have shared risk. I would call them. Maybe if this does not work for me in the next year I will call too. Good luck and so worth it!

Thank you for the information, and I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a consult with Dr. Gordon at Dominion Fertility, they have a high success rate and they do mostly single embryo transfers for egg donor recipients over 40. I think carrrying one may be a challenge so twins is not an option for me.

OP- I did a 2:1 cycle with Shady Grove and I was unsuccessful, but we are going to try again this fall. It was heartbreaking and I agree with your thoughts about the emotional drain of multiple cycles. If it doesn't work for this round, I think we will be done. However, if you don't complete your cycles you don't get your money back. The shared risk thing is really oversold and we were continually reassured that donors make lots of eggs, well not in our case (4 eggs but only 2 mature). I wish I knew the status of the couple we shared with, but they don't tell you. Our donor is no longer available and we have limited choices for this next cycle.

I am sorry for your loss. We tried fertility treatments for years without success. Then, I had health issues that lasted years. When it cleared up, I was in my mid 40s and only option was with the DE. We thought about giving up, but could not. We decided on SG Shared DE program. It was tough coming up with the funds, but barely managed that. We also knew from previous experience to steel ourselves in case it fails. It was very emotional, but it drew DH and I closer. Then, I got pregnant on the first try and gave birth to a health DC at 47!! I hope my story helps you and whatever choice you make, it will be the right one.

I'm 44 and I have two year old twins from DE at Dominion Fertility, looking at them now I know it was the right route to parenthood. We struggled with the inability for me to have my own genetic child, and we went to counseling a few times before moving ahead with DE. It made my DH and I get closer and we could not be happier with our family. Good luck to you

Go to CCRM if you don't mind traveling - the have the best donor success rate in the country (82% vs. Dominion's 65%), and you'll be treated much better than at SG.

I am so sorry to hear about this. If you don't mind me asking, what happened to her? At 31 weeks, that had to be heart breaking for you. How are you coping?

Preg Loss Poster... Oh thanks everyone, we are trying to get thru the days but this Saturday the 12th of September is when our lives stopped. Our beautiful little baby girl stopped breathing for no reason. The DRS say sometimes on Stillborn babies they don't know why. Now I can't seem to get pregnant. Of course we are using FET which the rate is low at 35% but you would think one of them would take. We have one lone one and my next FET is the end of October with a 7day blast so not as good as my 5day blast. I am praying maybe its the "one", meaning our earthly baby, because we have a heavenly one now. So our last FET was a BFN as I thought, I just didn't feel it. Well thanks again.
