School Picture Day

My PK3 DC's first school picture day is coming up. How does it work in these days of digital photography? I remember in my day we got one shot and if it was horrible we could go back on makeup day. But now do the photographers make sure they get a decent shot since they can take as many as they want/need? Worried the 3 year old will be a challenge.

I don't like the idea of paying for a picture before seeing it, but if they actually make sure they get a good photo, I'll take the chance.

Depends on the school and the photographer. At my DDs ES, we get a ton of shots to choose from. At my sons HS, you pay in advance and get a package with the one photo they took.

Don’t assume you will get a good photo. Our school’s pics are awful. And they don’t do a make up day. I don’t pay until I have seen the proofs (though they make it sound like you have to order and pay ahead of time).

Totally depends on the company at your school.

DS's school uses Lifetouch and it's exactly the same as you remember - one picture, good or bad.

My DD's school uses Great American Photo, and you get five or six proofs to chose from and don't order until after you see the proofs.

If you don't pay the day of the picture they will send you a sheet with a sample pic (the word PROOF in watermark over it) and you can choose then.

NP. Why are there two picture days? There is a School Picture Day in the Fall, and a class picture day in the Spring. I have to buy a package in the Spring to get the class picture.

One is for individual shots and the other is for class photos.

There's always an option at our school to just purchase the class photo.

That's what we do -- just buy the class photo in the spring. Its like $15 at most.

Because the school gets a cut of the price, so they make more money with 2 picture days.

I think my kids had pictures twice a year. Pre-pay one time, and wait the other. It's been awhile.

I think they wait until the spring for class pictures because kids come into the class throughout the year.
