Where do you shop for casual clothes (for fun, not work) if you're mid 30s or older?

I walked into The Gap recently, and I realized I had finally outgrown the place.

Why?
What kind of casual image do you wish to project? Elegant yet comfortable? J.Crew?

Ann Taylor or Ann Taylor Loft for basics, Clover in Kentlands for Trendy quality clothes, and sometimes Tj Maxx type stores.

I would try the boutiques in either Old Town or Bethesda. The chain stores are too formula with expected mixes. Boutiques take our age group more seriously and have really fun stuff.

Neiman Marcus sales
Anthropologie
Nordstrom

Can you suggest some good boutiques to try in Bethesda? Thanks.

Not knowing your style and preferences, it's hard to make suggestions. All you really need to do is to go to the Bethesda Row area - there are a slew of boutiques and something that will surely work for you.

OP here. I want to project a "I'm a mom in my 30s" image.

I like Ann Taylor Loft, H&M (for basics like Ts and tank tops - not so much the trendy stuff), Nordstrom, and sometimes Old Navy.

J. Crew and Ginger on Bethesda Row.

Anthropologie! I also get stuff at J Crew, Bloomingdales, and sometimes Banana Republic.

Jcrew, Anthropologie, lulu lemon, Denim Bar, Ginger on B Row, Loehmans for designer discount

In Bethesda, head to Ginger. Gretchen is the owner and she's great.

Honestly I shop all over the place: Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Loehmans, TJ Max, Kohls (but I don't always find things there), Old Navy or Target (for things like t-shirts, tanks)

Obviously these aren't all designer places, but I like to mix and match! I think the key is to shop a lot (if you can find the time) and see what you can find out there.
