DS was going to have a birthday party at a science party but now he wants to have a party at home. We'd be inviting around 20 boys.
Entertainment ideas? |

First, cut that number way down. Way down to like 7. There is no way in hell you want 20 9 year olds in your house. That is sensory overload, even for the most laid back kid.

+1 We had a birthday party for 10yo DS at home. There were about a dozen guests, and that was more than enough, even with a structured activity that kept them all busy in 3 small groups for about an hour. Kids that age get crazy in big groups. |

I'm thinking pizza and movie. Maybe Bricks (legos) party? If you have a big yard, some kind of laser tag or soccer or basketball teams could be fun.
I'm not really picturing 20 boys in your home unless you have a HUGE home. That's a lot of noise, mess, destruction of property... Then again you could phone kids' parents right before cake if it gets really out of hand, too. JK. I'd settle on an activity and then work backwards into a count. Like if you were organizing some kind of sport, 8 is a nice number (4:4). Or if you're doing a movie, counting how many kids can sprawl in front of your tv, etc. |
| We just did this and invited almost 20. A few couldn't come. It was fine. Expect rambunctious boys--put breakables away. Get a few extra hands (e.g. Teenager) to help. It does help if you know the kids decently well. I knew all these boys well enough to tell them "Larlo, cut it out. I know your mom wouldn't allow that." Do you have a backyard? That was key. They spent most of the party running around making up their own games or kicking balls around. If it had rained, I might have a different outlook. I alternated them between the backyard and the basement playroom--had some activities including a movie/popcorn for those who were interested, but otherwise they mainly just played like kids play. |
| Laser tag, pizza and cake. All outside. To echo the others, try to have a smaller party or go somewhere. A neighbor had about this many for a mobile laser tag party and it looked fun but it would be too much for me. |
| Tom’s Laser Tag. Keep “Home base” outside or in your garage. The kids never come inside. Perfect for 20. |

Every kid gets their first beer (just one)
Rolls of caps and hammers Bottle rockets , black cats and a lighter. Magnifying glasses for burning leaves and stuff Liter cokes and mentos mix for exploding bottles. Goodie bag has , Chinese finger trap, Joy buzzer , X-ray specs , fake vomit, mouth blackening gum, whoopie cushion, rubber chicken. They will never forget it. |
| We had the Rocket Fizz challenge. If you're not sure what this is, Rocket Fizz has a line of soda with interesting flavors like bacon, key lime pie and birthday cake. I picked out a bunch and stayed away from the gross ones like cat piddle. Then we got plastic shot glasses and had each kid sample it. They had to guess what the flavor was and most correct guesses won a prize. We got the idea from Evantube. The kids had fun with it. |
