| When are FCPS SOL dates for 2018 made available? Does anyone know? I need to schedule a surgery for DS and wondered when the release that info. DS is just now in 3rd so never took SOLs before. Also, what happens if DS misses the SOL (ie, we schedule the surgery because dates are not released and they conflict). Surgery is about a week recovery give or take (we were told). |
| They will probably occur in the mid-May to first week of June timeframe. If a student misses a test they can be made up later. I would schedule the surgery earlier rather than later if you are concerned about a conflict. |
Typically the last two weeks of may and the first werk of june. If you look on your school's website, find thr calendar, and look ahead to May, they may be listed. If not listed, you can call and they will tell you. I'd say do the surgery in the second werk of June if possible, otherwise do April. |
| Your child doesn't have to take the SOL. Nothing negative will happen if he misses it and doesn't make it up. |
This. There is no penalty to your child if he/she is out for medical reasons. The window has been set for May 7-June 1. But each school sets its own schedule for when each grade will take each test. Most will have that done around spring break time. |
This is incorrect. A student must pass a certain number of SOLs to receive a HS diploma. A students needs a Pass Advance on the 7th grade Math SOL to be able to take Honors Algebra in 7th grade. |
But OPs child is in 3rd grade. Nothing happens to a 3rd grader who misses a SOL for a medical reason. |
OPs child is in third grade. Did you read the OP? |

The window for the state is April 9 to June 22. Your school can determine their own schedule within that timeframe. They very likely already know when they're planning on doing it so just ask if they know their schedule already. I work at a middle school and we already have a draft calendar of our Spring SOLs.
If they don't know, just plan the surgery and don't worry about it. Missing an SOL in 3rd grade means nothing.... |
Try that again. The window for a 3rd grader in FCPS is May 7-June 1. It’s clearly marked on the FCPS testing calendar. |
| OP, ask the school. Ours already published the dates on their web site. |
