The brides in the NYT Wedding Announcements

They're not that pretty. Some are even over 30. They manage to marry well!

I swear it’s the same 3 trolls.

Are all the dudes handsome because I didn't know "pretty" was one of the criteria for acceptance?

I thought it was more about being from a connected, wealthy family or having one or both partners or their parents having a "notable" career.

The brides in the nyt announcements are catches

proles with questionable breeding run the risk of regression to the mean in a much more severe way

Fun fact: most ppl in there submit their own announcements

And the two things that are most likely to get you in are 1) working at a few specific law firms and 2) being a same sex couple. Being pretty is not part of the criteria. Seriously, google it.

I was in the NYT for my wedding. I was over 30. I also am heterosexual.

I guess it seems like a big deal, depending on your circle. But it always seemed normal to me. First I saw my friends elder siblings in there. Then my friends. Now it's their kids! And yes it does depend on certain groups and credentials. We would likely have had our announcement go in, but we aren't the types to submit that kind of thing.

I am 29, born and raised and currently live in NYC, and have only ever known 1 person featured (at least that I'm aware of, but I do follow them, and the one who was featured kept strong tagged on fb so I think I'd be aware).

Because smart people don't marry someone at 25. G'luck OP.

My brother and his bride were in there. She is the daughter of a law firm partner/very chi chi rich NYC family. I believe she was 31.

The family submits the announcement.

I was in it, married at 29, didn’t submit a pic. Straight couple, no fancy law firms, not old (or new) money.

Or being the scion of a famous or old New York family. Like the couple recently who met boating.

My good friend was in it too. Also nothing fancy other than both she and her spouse went to (the same) Ivy.

In this day and age, anyone can be in it and you have to submit it yourself. They don't go looking for a scion of an old NY family.

I was in it and am nothing fancy but grew up in NYC and everyone I know had their weddings in the Times. It's just what is/was done in certain circles.
