What's wrong with me?
I've had a dull aching pain in my right kidney area (back hip/lower back) since Wednesday. Sometimes it throbs, sometimes it's sharp, sometimes it's just dull achiness. It came out of nowhere too. I've been drinking a ton of water, but no relief. The weird thing is that I have no other symptoms like fever, urination problems, or anything of the sort. Any thoughts? Thinking maybe I'll go to the walk-in clinic tomorrow. Got freaked out with Dr. Google. - 40 yr old woman (if that makes a difference). |
Likely a kidney stone. Keep drinking lots of water, add as much FRESH squeezed lemon juice as you can tolerate. If you go in, they will do an ultrasound or other scan to see if they see stones. Could be a kidney infection, but I don't know much about the symptoms. Kidney stones are my thing. |
I had this for a day or two and then spiked a really high fever and passed out in the shower -- turns out I had apparently had a UTI that didn't present any symptoms and progressed into a kidney infection. Sucked, but knocked it out with some serious antibiotics. |
Maybe it's your back. |
See a doctor. It could be so many things. UTI, an issue with your overt, appendicitis, a back or nerve issue. It's persisted for a couple of days, so I would definitely go in and get checked out. |
Definitely get checked out. My guess would be kidney stone or ascending UTI infection. Not so uncommon to not have any symptoms until infection starts ascending to the kidneys--bad place to be BTW. |

My pain that was like that turned into shingles. It felt like I'd been kicked by a horse in the kidney. You likely would have had the rash by now though, so everyone else's recommendations of kidney stone/infection are better. Just another thing to throw out there as a cause of flank pain. |

Flank pain is kidney stone or infection. |
If you have intense stabbing unrelenting pain on that side that might be in the front or the back it's a kidney stone traveling down and maybe stuck some in your ureter. They'll give you something they hope will open your yreters some and pain meds if you go in to an ER or a urologist. It might pass though. |
