| My kids go to a dcps school that they got in out of bounds. We just bought a house in Virginia- are they allowed to stay at their school for the rest of this year since they've already started? |
|
When will you move to Virginia? Next week or in April?
You're supposed to notify your school when your address changes -- whether you're moving to another part of the city or out of state. Whether you are allowed to stay until the end of the year is up to the principal. |
| Why say anything at all? If you want them to finish out this school year, do just that. |
You can even keep it going longer than that. We moved out of the District a couple of years ago, but our house was sold to a child-free couple and we just never got around to telling anyone. So our kids are still thriving in DCPS with their friends. It can be done. |
If you are comfortable breaking the law, yes, many things can be done. |
| I wouldn't sweat it for the rest of the school year PP if you paid last year's DC income tax. I wouldn't say a word to admins. You don't need a whispering campaign in the school community. |
I hope you're caught and have to pay back tuition. |
You should be prosecuted and made to pay tuition back. Criminal. |
+100. Yes, it can be done. It is also known as committing fraud. |
| Isn't the new rule though that you can move out of bounds and stay in the school basically through the feeder? (Crap policy, but it is what it is) |
NM, just saw that OP was already OOB. Nevermind! |

Out of bounds is not the same as out of state!
The out of state portion is very different. DC schools serve DC students and taxpayers. You're paying taxes in VA, then VA schools is where you need to go. What you can do is keep your enrollment and agree to pay out of state tuition. I'm guessing they'll pro-rate that tuition. |
Va. could be a problem. But if you move to PG, aka "Ward 9," DC will give you a pass. |
| Ask yourself how long you can drive in VA with your DC license plate after you moved to VA. That's about as long as your children can stay in DCPS. Same thing for all other DC services. It's really quite simple. |
$10 says the administration already knows. At least they seem to with the cheaters at our school. |
