Old wives tale about morning sickness and gender - any truth to it?

Anonymous
I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my first and have not felt sick at all - I feel fine. My sister is 14 weeks pregnant and was sick as a dog between 4 and 12 weeks. Everyone keeps saying "You're having a boy; she's having a girl." It irritates me because I really want a girl and she really wants a boy. What's up with this old wives tale and why does everyone keep saying it? Is there any truth to it? Has anyone out there had no morning sickness and a girl??

There is NO truth to old wives tales, thats why they are old wives tales. I wasn't sick at all and I'm having a girl. My SIL had 2 boys and was sick as a dog with one but not with the other. For every confirmation of one of these that you get, there is one person who goes against it.

Nope. I had no morning sickness with either pregnancy, and have one of each

I had MS when pregnant with a boy but none when pregnant with a girl. Sounds like a bunch of bologna!

A good friend had no morning sickness with one, and extreme morning sickness with the other. Both girls.

I did not have morning sickness and I had a girl.

My mom did not have morning sickness with either and she had a boy, then a girl.

My SIL had no morning sickness with her first - had a girl. Had morning sickness with her second, also a girl!

I do believe there is something to be said for those chinese birth charts though. Google it, plug in your info and it will tell you boy or girl. I have never known it to be wrong!!! I'm sure it's just coincidence though!

No MS with first- boy. Horrible MS with second- boy again.

I think it's an old wives' tale, though it's been totally true for me. Everything's been worse this time around (boy) than last time (girl), including morning sickness. I tend to think it's because my body is just more rickety, having gone through it once already! How do women have, like, five kids?! Wow. I feel like I'd fall apart if I ever had a third.

It's TRUE!!! At LEAST 50% of the time!

(Sorry, couldn't help it!)

Reverse for me - sick with boy, not with girl.

I had exactly the same morning sickness experience (about 12 weeks of nausea with no throwing up) for both children - 1 is a boy and 1 is a girl.

No morning sickness, and I'm having a girl.

OP here - thanks for your responses!!!!! What a relief! Not that I'd be really sad if I found out I'm pregnant with a boy... but I still want to hold out hope that maybe it's a girl, and everyone is telling me that it's definitely a boy. I am crossing my fingers that it's a girl!
