Below is a WONDERFUL book:
Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, Ann Lamont Excerpt from Amazon: Think you've got a book inside of you? Anne Lamott isn't afraid to help you let it out. She'll help you find your passion and your voice, beginning from the first really crummy draft to the peculiar letdown of publication. Readers will be reminded of the energizing books of writer Natalie Goldberg and will be seduced by Lamott's witty take on the reality of a writer's life, which has little to do with literary parties and a lot to do with jealousy, writer's block and going for broke with each paragraph. Marvelously wise and best of all, great reading. |
| Oh, I read that a few years ago. (Been trying for a while.....) I'm not crazy about Ann Lamott except Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son's First Year, which I loved. Maybe I'll give Bird by Bird another try. Thank you. |

PP again. . .
Also try "Writing Down the Bones" I took an online writer's workshop ("The Writer's Studio") that was excellent and a lot of fun. Worth the money. |

If you go to the DCUM home page and scroll way down to past blog entries from months and months ago, you will find one about a woman who was featured in a magazine article about writing a book, along with 6 other women (featured in the article as individuals, not that they all wrote a book together!).

Thank you very much! I'll try to find it. Thanks for the other suggestions also! |
| OP, don't know if they cover it but you might check out the Bethesda Writer's Center. |
| What kind of book do you want to write?? |
| I did. I wrote it pre-kids although it wasn't published until after my first. I took a very long time to write during evenings and weekends, and then a very long time to go through the publishing process. It is a professional book, kind of a how-to for people in my profession published by the primary trade group for my profession. It actually has done pretty well in terms of sales, but I haven't made a lot of money from it. I wouldn't say the money I have made justifies the time spent writing it, but the book has been very beneficial to my career in other ways so was "worth it" in that respect. |
