Best Time To Visit Rome & Paris

What is the best time (low crowds, not oppressively hot) to visit Rome and Paris? I'm not a fan of extreme heat or crowds. What will be the best months to visit Rome and Paris? I'm looking at the first week of April of next year. If this is not a good time, then what months would you recommend?

Also, can you recommend a hotel in either city that will accommodate a family of 4 with middle school aged children.

We went to Rome for spring break this April. It was great weather - 75 degrees every day. It was the week before Easter so there were spring break crowds - it was pretty crowded but I heard it is a lot more crowded in the summer. Overall I thought it was a good time to go.

I went to Rome at Thanksgiving. The weather was pleasant, as I recall--but it has been awhile. I do remember that there was one day that was quite cold--but we stopped in a restaurant and had the very best soup I have ever tasted.

I went another year over Christmas, and the weather was fine. Lots of sites are closed, though, during that period.

Can you go in September? It tends to be less crowded.

Rome is nice in May. Can be a bit warm, but no risk of clashing with Easter and tourist season isn't yet in high gear.

Rome: april/may or October
Paris: June or September

I go to Paris a lot for work and have been at all times of the year. April is generally a better month weather wise than not. But if you are going when its spring break there will be tourists, it also is when many European schools will be off for Easter, in Europe 2 weeks off being the norm.

Sorry know nothing re: Rome weather other than tends to be warmer than Paris, but these are two full on walking cities with so much to see.... just factor that in and your energy levels for a week...

I went to Paris in early June one time and the weather was fantastic but crowds were starting to pick up. I might say May for that reason. Should also be an ok time for Rome. Whatever you do, do not go to Rome in June. Very hot and very crowded.

early fall.. DH and I used to travel to Europen mid September to beginning Oct all the time pre kids. It was sooo great.

Mid to late January. Weather still good enough, very small crowds. Can you believe that with mutiple lines, there was only ONE to TWO peoplen in line in front of us to get into the Vatican? I last went there in August. Terribly crowded and hot to boot. January was awesome. We used Airbnb because we needed a full fridge and better peace of mind if our baby cried that he would disturb less people.

Obviously this is for Rome. For Paris, IDK. Avoid August is all I experienced

November. Fewest number of tourists. Winter hasn't set in yet. Avoid Thanksgiving holiday.

Before Easter for sure- and avoid Rome during Holy Week. Madness.

I would recommend Air BNB or VRBO over a hotel.
