I need a good haircut so bad!!! With 3 kids, I might go from long to chin length because I'm sick of always tying it back because I can't spend 40 minutes to blow it dry with it so long. I feel like a kid always in a scrunchie. I'd like a more grown up style that I can blow dry in 10 or 15 minutes. I've read a lot of praise on yelp for Franz Sebastian in Bethesda, which is close to home. Has anyone tried him? Or anyone else? I love Andre Chreky but don't want to trecky down to DC anymore.
Thanks so much! You don't know how much I fret over picking a stylist! |
| Have you thought about straitening or de-frizzing treatments instead? It sounds like you're not ready to lose the long hair but you're just sick of dealing with it. Have you tried not washing it so often? You're only supposed to wash hair a couple of times a week. It may get greasy at first, but it will adjust. I know this isn't answering your question about stylists, but I would hate to see you cut your hair without looking at other options. |

I just went from long (few inches below shoulders), to between-shoulders-and-chin-length hair. I still pull it back in a ponytail by the end of most days. My issue is that I get frustrated with it falling in my face.
The cut is great, and I definitely spend a lot less time blow drying, but its from a Penn Quarter salon and OP said K St was too far.... |
I used to spend 40 minutes blowdrying my hair straight and 2 minutes later its frizzy and pouffy when i leave the house. I had Bkt done and its great its straight shiny and no frizz at all ! i love it i just wash and go

| I wish I could do BKT but I'm still bf'ing my 3 month old. Probably can't with that, right? |
| To PP -- which Penn Quarter salon/stylist do you go to? |
| Odie at St. Germaine |
| BKT? |
|
brazilian keratine treatment (aka formaldehyde treatment)

| for the PP who did BKT, how curly was your hair before? I have very thick hair that's wavy/curly. For me, BKT is only worth it if my hair is truly straight afterwards - with no more than 10 minutes spent on styling. Is that possible?? |

I have wavy/curly hair. I thought a shorter cut would be easier and it was NOT. My hair turned into a fro, especially in DC humidity. I had to spend extra time on it to get it so I didn't look like a crazy conductor lady. The weight of my hair when it was longer was actually making it easier to style. I'm back to long hair again. I also don't wash it but every 3 sometimes 4 days. If I need a touch up I use a straight iron and that takes me all of two minutes. Usually I don't blow dry it perfectly straight. Just enough so the waves are smooth and not stringy/curly/frizzy.

I have middle eastern really thick hair not curly but wavy and when its humid its really frizzy and poufy, after Bkt i just wash and go ! its so much easier.. it looks so much better and its straight i love it

| I've heard from a hairstylist that if your hair looks good curly, to not do something like BKT or chemical straightening because then when you want to wear your hair curly again it won't have a good curl anymore. |
| You could also put your hair up in a twist. |
I've had the BKT done several times; prior to getting it done the first time, my hair was curly/wavy and thick. I also was ready for a change and got 10 " of hair cut off into a bob that is longer in the front and I totally regret it! The BKT makes it MUCH easier to style, but in order for my hair to look really polished (how the new style should really be worn) it takes me more time than it did when my hair was long. Don't rush into anything! I will continue getting the BKT done every 4 months or so, but am letting my hair grow out. With three kids, I need hair that is at least long enough where I can pull it up and it will still look cute.
