Is 23mm follicle too big?

Just got back from my ultrasound appt and have one 23mm follicle. I am kind of annoyed with my RE because I asked to come back for monitoring yesterday but she said today made more sense. But now I am worried I waited too long and the egg will be too mature by the time I ovulate. I was told to trigger tonight for an IUI on Friday AM, so I assume it will grow at least 2-3mm before ovulation, right?

This is my last IUI - does it make sense with a follicle this large? Or is it a lost cause?

for me, it would be. but you could be different.

i am certain that a lot of failed cycles are due to crappy timing. i feel like REs don't really pay enough attention to timing, especially IUIs. i had more success timing IUIs with OPKs than i had with monitoring.

You never know. It seems larger than average but that doesn't mean it might not result in a baby. Good luck!

What meds were you on? I think I recall that with Clomid they like the follicles to get bigger.

I agree with pp that REs can be very blase with the timing on IUI cycles and it really annoyed me too.

for me, yes, that was too big.

Op here, I was on Clomid (150mg for 5 days) so maybe bigger is better? The two other times I used it I had chemicals and my follicles were only 18mm max when I triggered.

Maybe see if you can google anything about that? I recall that about Clomid producing bigger follicles, but not sure where I saw that. Or hopefully someone else will know.

Also, I would have sex tonight, just to be sure your bases are covered.

+1 on the OPKs. Are you charting yourself? I would base the decision on that if you are.

OP here, I did the IUI on Friday morning and spoke with my RE about follicle size. She said she didn't feel that 23mm was too big, even knowing it would probably be more like 26mm at ovulation. She said she is interested to see if a bigger follicle leads to succcess for me since the smaller. Ones have not. That said, I am sure she would have never admitted waiting too long and that triggering at 20/21 would have been better.

So not in the two week way and we shall see. I am not super hopeful but guess we will see.

I have used OPKs in the past but they haven't always been so reliable. Even when my LH was tested on Weds it was still only at 12, so it was ris Big but not even close to peak yet - so not sure an OPK would have given me a smiley yet right?

I had the most success when I did IUI one day or half day before smiley showed up.

OP did you have success? I am triggering tonight and my follicle measured 23.2mm this morning. My LH is still really low at 4.9...

Not op- but my recommendation is to have sex tonight and tomorrow. My RE messed up timing on my cycles multiple times ( Luke it was too small Friday, come back Monday and by then it was too big and they thought I was ovulating naturally, which they were wrong about as progesterone didn't rise 7 days later). I had to cancel a cycle too bc of bad monitoring. Our success ( currently 7 weeks pregnant) was when I demanded early and frequent monitoring and had nighty sex as soon as I started letrozole. We didn't do it night before iui but did earlier in the day that day ( and still had good sperm numbers).
